County leaders selected Trane to replace their existing ammonia chiller system with a system that uses a sustainable refrigerant and can be housed outside. The result? The arena has reduced its energy costs, lowering its electrical bill by more than 20 percent while cutting maintenance costs. The upgrade also optimized comfort while addressing reliability, environmental, and safety issues.

When the City of Dawson Creek staff discovered ammonia contamination in the brine mixture needed for the ice cooling system shared by its Memorial Arena and Curling Club, the city took fast action for the safety of its patrons. The facilities were closed, as the city worked with TFM Consultants International and the BC Safety Authority to quickly restore services.
